Rangers may have a wide variety of secondary professions due to the use of their Expertise attribute.
Common secondary professions for Ranger primaries include: Monk, for use with Mending Touch; Necromancer, for use with the Touch Ranger; Warrior, for use of Tactics stances like Balanced Stance as well as energy-dependant melee attacks like Cyclone Axe and Irresistible Blow; Ritualist, for the use of Weapon spells; Elementalist, for the use of elemental enchantments such as Conjure Flame in conjunction with skills like Barrage
Warrior
- Rampage as One has become the main focus recently for ranger/warrior type builds. In additon to pet damage the ranger uses a hammer to deal damage and interrupt foes. The main problem with this build is that it has no forms of self healing as all of the attribute points are used to maximize out Beast Mastery so that Rampage as One can be used constantly.
Elementalist
- Elementalist spells like Conjure Flame can be combined with Barrage to deal extra damage.
Mesmer
- Echo chains can be useful when trapping.
Monk
- Mending Touch for condition removal and Purge Signet for multi-hex removal.
- Rangers have efficient self heals, and should not invest in Healing Prayers.
Necromancer
- The "Touch Ranger" takes advantage of Expertise's effect on touch-range skills. This combined with ranger defensive stances and speed boosts make a powerful build with decent armor ignoring damage and potent healing.
- Plague Signet and Plague Sending can handle conditions well.
Assassin
- Signet of Malice is an effective condition removal.
- Expertise assassins are quite rare, Repeating Strike as one of their favorite skills.
Ritualist
- Weapon Spells such as Splinter Weapon, Nightmare Weapon and Brutal Weapon can work well with a bow. They combine with Barrage and Dual Shot to create a potent damage spike.
Paragon
- While shouts are not affected by the ranger expertise they can be used in conjunction with pets. Spear attacks on the other hand are affected by expertise and there are several builds out there that allow for a ranger to take advantage of the spear, causing large condition spikes, using the elite Rampage as One to increase the rate of fire and then: "Go for the Eyes!", "Find Their Weakness!" and Vicious Attack to inflict high damage spikes.
Dervish
- Rangers can successfully use this build to create a new form of condition dealing. By using the elite Ebon Dust Aura on a ebon bow, in addition to the other condition causing enchantments the dervish has to offer, this ranger has the ability to cause serious damage and provide successful defense against warriors and assassins.
